Bringing zombie soldiers to life
Just how dead is too dead? That was one of the dilemmas faced by producer Nick Hirshkorn and director Toby Haynes as they approached the stunning - albeit gruesome - moment in episode 3 where resurrects Italian soldiers to interrogate them on behalf of the Duke of Wellington. Different 'levels of death' were experimented with using the skills of concept artist Howard Swindell.
Once a less skeletal approach for the specialist make up had been decided and the actors reached the purpose built windmill set in Canada, Nick noticed one small detail was missing - a wriggly something that was easily solved by a quick to a local bait shop... live maggots!
