Salvation Army

On the 2nd July 2015 the celebrate 150 years since William Booth founded his now worldwide organisation.Ìý Pam Rhodes visits Hadleigh Farm in Essex, which the organisation describes as one of its best kept secrets. The Farm was established in 1892 to give the poor and homeless from the East End of London a place to gain skills to help them find employment giving them ‘a hand up not a hand out’. Times may have changed but the ethos remains the same. They train people who have barriers to employment giving them experience of real work. The Farm is open to the public and has a tea rooms and rare breeds centre to explore.

Shaun Patience runs the new Salvation Army project ‘On Track To Employment’. It aims to give the long term unemployed the skills they need to get back into work.

The fire led to the Muslim community not having anywhere to pray – at their most important time of year, Ramadan. The church offered space for the prayers to take place and in doing so, they are building interfaith relationships for a better future.
