The eleventh annual Eurovision Song Contest broadcast from Villa Louvigny in Luxembourg. The winning entry was Austria's "Merci cherie" sung by Udo Jurgens. In this contest a rule was introduced which prohibited countries singing in any language other than their national languages. The decision may have been in reaction to the previous year's Swedish entry "Absent friends" which was sung in English. This competition also marked the first year that a black singer, the Netherlands' Milly Scott, performed in the contest.
