The 'horns of the buffalo' battle formation
Gus Casely-Hayford is shown how Zulu warriors overcame their opponents using a particular formation known as 'the horns of the buffalo'. Shaka, the king of the Zulus, was credited with inventing it and it was used to great effect during the Zulus' famous victory over the British at Isandlwana in 1879.
