A song about the high mortality rate of Victorian children
In a music hall style song, Tam and the Toff tell us about the high mortality rate of Victorian children. This is caused by overcrowding, poor sanitation and dirty water. They describe the plans to bring clean water to Glasgow from Loch Katrine via a large pipe. Sam is happy at the prospect of improved health for his children whilst the Toff is keen to make a profit from the project.
