After hearing that 鈥渃leanliness is next to godliness鈥� a young girl is taken to the public baths for the first time by her mother. She has never seen a bath before and is worried she might drown. However, she is very excited by the sight of the clean swimming pool. Her mother describes a time before water was piped to Glasgow from Loch Katrine when people had to queue for hours to collect a bucket of water. Her mother told her of the day in 1859 when Queen Victoria opened the new water supply. It was hoped clean water would put an end to outbreaks of cholera. Archive film footage and photographs enhance the telling of this memory.
