‘Hospital must investigate my son’s death properly’
A father whose son died following a delay in his treatment has called for a “proper investigation” into the case.
Allyn Condon and his wife Jenny lost their eight-week-old son Ben in April. He had been born prematurely and had a bacterial infection.
The couple met with hospital staff to discuss their concerns. They recorded their meeting and, having left the room for a break, taped staff still talking. When the staff members remembered the conversation was being recorded, they discussed whether they could delete that part.
In a statement, the NHS Trust acknowledged that further tests could have been done, but that “given the trend in the blood results [they] did have, it is unlikely that this would have changed the outcome for Ben.” The Trust also said an investigation concluded that “there was no intention on the part of our staff to mislead.”
Allyn told Victoria that his family “just want the hospital to give us the answers”.
