Southampton is the busiest cruise port in the UK. Every week during the summer, thousands of passengers return or set off on a holiday afloat.

You're never bored. From morning to evening - it's busy.
Odd Kvamme

We meet Odd Kvamme, the hotel manager for The Balmoral, a cruise ship operated by Fred. Olsen Cruise Lines which caters for up to 1,230 passsengers.

Turnaround day is usually the busiest time of a cruise for Odd Kvamme.

It's even聽more challenging聽if the ship has been delayed by weather conditions or other reasons.聽

The ship also has a team of carpenters on standby to carry out any maintenance to the cabins.

All cruise ships have just a few hours on the quay to get ready for their next voyage after disembarking the last set of passengers.

It鈥檚 a race against time to get the vessel ship-shape and ready for the next round of customers on the cruise.

It's especially challenging for the chefs who have to ensure there are enough provisions to feed the crew and passengers.

They load up with around 20 tonnes of meat and fish, a further 30 tonnes of fruit and vegetables and 23,000 eggs.聽
