DS Stanley “Steve” Moore

Steve was best known for his dramatic arrest of Roy James.

Steve Moore (1927 – date) arrived on the Flying Squad in September 1960 as a detective sergeant and went to work with 5 Squad.

He was paired up with Frank Williams, with whom he became great friends.

Steve was a keen rugby player and was renowned for his physical prowess. This paid off in his rooftop pursuit and capture of Roy James, perhaps the most spectacular of the Great Train Robbery arrests.

He retired with the rank of detective chief superintendent.
