My Invictus lowdown...
I AM from Leeds. I was born there in 1973. My Dad, Terry Yorath, was a professional footballer for Leeds United.
Wheelchair rugby is such a fast and brutal sport
He went on to play for Coventry City, Tottenham, and the Vancouver Whitecaps, so I lived in about five houses and went to school in two different countries.
By 1983, Mum was fed up with moving and told Dad that we (by then I had two brothers and a sister) needed to stay in school for more than a year! So whenever Dad changed jobs after that, he did the moving, not us!
I AM proud of my children. I can’t believe I’m a Mum sometimes, doing school runs, planning meals, booking holidays and nagging about homework. It doesn’t seem two minutes since somebody did all of that stuff for me.
I AM excited about the wheelchair rugby, because it’s such a fast and brutal sport. The hits are hard and the collisions unforgiving.
I AM inspired by the natural world - it knows best. We can try to control it, but we will never win.
I AM also the owner/keeper of six chickens, two dogs, a hamster, three fish and a pony - and hopefully 20 sheep soon as well!
