Would be good if it was! Second highest mountain in Scotland is Ben MacDhui!

Just for reference, a lot of people are under the impression that one lives "on" an island. Now this may be the case with islands elsewhere, but as far as the Scottish Islands are concerned, one lives "in" them.

In Galeic one would say "Tha mi a' fuireach ann am (IN) Muile, or, "Tha mi a fuireach ann an(IN) Leodhas"

One does not say, "Tha mi a fuireach AIR (on) Muile or Leodhas or anywhere else.

As my good old Gaelic teacher would tell me, it's an island, not a raft!!! You live IN it nt ON it.

Mountainman, who wrote this has a great love of Gaelic - esp with respect to the mountains.

Remember the old rhyme:

A mountain's a mountain in England but when
The climbers in Scotland it may be a Ben,
A Stuc or a Spidean, a Cnoc or a Torr,
A Meall or a Bidean, a Sgurr or a Sgorr"

Just a quick warning here - for all you fellow mountain-men out there! One of Scotland's best mountain bothies burned down last week - Bob Scotts in the Cairngorms.

This is a tragedy of massive proportions.

However it is hoped to re-build it. What does this mean for Island bloggers? Well there is an extremely fine bothy in Mull which is quite well used by people. Please please please be extremely careful if you light a fire - it is so easy for accidents to happen.

Many other fine bothies have been lost through carelessness - Bob Scott's is just the latest.

So enjoy the hills, enjoy the bothies but please be careful.
