Royalty on Mull!

As the locals will have seen in the Oban Times, Princess Ann visited our shores - she came to Tobermory to open the new harbour building which is great - its all new and shiny and still smelt of wet paint! Lots of lovely clean loos, and facilities, and Sea Life Surveys are located in their too. In the evening we had a free concert with lots of local musicians including Iain Thomson, Sam Sedgewick, Sorren McLean - and all finished off by the Red Hot Chilli Pipers who were fantastic - hubby had to work so missed it all but daughter and I had a great time and rolled home at 1.00 in the morning.

Some photos of the event - didnt get piccies of the concert as too busy dancing about!

The new harbour building

The harbour was full - Princess Ann went down the pontoon to meet some sailors!

That is a really steep gangplank!

Thee must a caption competition for this one - what is he saying to his mate?

The Gaelic choir sounding and looking wonderful!

A wee dram for the journey?

Farewell - it was lovely meeting you!

Tobermory looking splendid from the window of the new harbour building

and finally, one of my fave birds - this was one of our White Tailed Sea Eagles flying over the garden being mobbed by a hooded crow - not a great picture - just very difficult in the excitement of the moment to focus, make sure the right lens is on etc. guess that what separates a professional photographer from amateurs like me!

Off for a week to Speyside - staying at Grantown on Spey - touring round the area - its a fantastic location - beautiful scenery - wildlife - and just kicking back!

Great photos, WF, the harbour looks super with all the boats and flags. The new building is very nice and fits in well, I think. Great views from that big window! And loved the eagle photo, that's a very brave crow!

Poor Princess Anne, she got the timing wrong, we aren't in Tob till next week.

Those photographs are quite something. HRH looks very smart indeed. I really must try and get to Mull again, it's been about three or four years and it must have changed (like everywhere !) Well done with the eagle too - such a magnificent bird.

Great blog WF. Mull seems to be the place to be; between dolphin watching last month and now a visit from Royalty.

Squidgy the Otter from Green with envy

Great pics, WildFreckle. Lucky you, Barney, I'm just a bit jealous that you'll be there. Red Hot Chili Pipers! Excellent!

Gus - fantastic vid of the event - I'm newly founded fan of the Red Hot Chilli Pipers and Sorren Maclean band - there's still life in the old dog yet!

"HRH looks ever so smart", So does Charlie boy, particularly in kilts (must be the German, or is it the Greek, in them?). I assume the reference to smartness refers to clothing and not to something more cerebral.

Indeed!

Whats new???

This comment comes months later and will robably never be read, nonetheless I will put on record that the Visitor's Centre facilities for toilets and showers are - on teh Gents side anyway - very poorly designed. They look swell before the first visitor but: - the shower compatments are ridiculously impracticalbe, how do you keep your clothes dry whilst showering? the toilet floor - very smart but shows every spot of damp, whatever its source hand dries (blowers) which must have been bought from some second-hand outlet - the air currents they produce are so feeble that a gnat could overcome them, and the temperature is none to hot either. no arrangement (at the time of visiting) for allowing yachties, who have paid 拢20 or more for facilities, to visit the toilets for free while stil requiring other visitors to pay their pennies (shilings, rather). How can any organisation bungle such basics in a building??? It takes talent to be so incompetent.

Barney from Swithiod swinging criticism
