A bit messy at times from Shoma Uno there, some dodgy landings on a quad toeloop and quad flip.

He also deviated quite a lot from what was written in his planned programme - not quite making it up as he went along but definitely adapting things.

But he's overtaken Yuzuru Hanyu at the top - even though Hanyu scored higher in this free skate, it was the 10 more points he scored in Tuesday's short programme that has made the difference.

Curling - Great Britain 5-6 Switzerland

Some more quotes from British skip Eve Muirhead, who is competing at her fourth Games.

鈥淭here's a lot of hunger here," said Muirhead. "A fourth Olympic Games is something you dream of coming to.

鈥淚'm very glad that I've got the opportunity to be here with the girls. This is their first Olympic Games and I'm proud of how much they've come along and deserve their spot in the team. They've helped me get here and I hope I've helped them get here as well."

On the team's preparation, she adds: "I don't think we can blame not enough practice. Over the last few months, I've thrown a lot of stones.

鈥淚t was different prep to what we're used to going into the event, but it's the same for the majority of players here. We had a great practice yesterday, and then we actually had a good game today, but unfortunately just wasn't quite good enough at the end.鈥

  9. 'As a team, we worked very, very well'published at 05:02 Greenwich Mean Time 10 February 2022

Curling - Great Britain 5-6 Switzerland

British skip Eve Muirhead is taking the positives after her quartet opened their campaign with a 6-5 loss to Switzerland.

She said: "It's not the result we wanted but we can take a lot of very good things from that game. As a team, we need to move on from that because it's such a long week.

"As much as it was a loss on the scoreboard, we can take a lot of things that keep us positive and keep us in a good place going forward.

"As a team, we worked very, very well. Our communication, our shot play, was good, but we just maybe didn't play the crucial shots at the right time. And then of course, me missing that last draw. That's what wins or loses your games, isn't it?"

The International Olympic Committee refused to provide any more details on the ongoing "legal issue" which has prevented the awarding of the team figure skating medals at the Beijing Winter Olympics.

IOC spokesman Mark Adams would not confirm which team or athlete was involved or whether a failed drugs test was the cause of the delay.

"I can't comment on speculation that I've seen overnight," he said at the daily media briefing held in Beijing on Thursday.

"We had a situation arise at short notice that has legal implications and I'm not going to comment on a legal case in a press conference."

The Russian Olympic Committee won gold on Monday, ahead of the United States and Japan.

They had a mini ceremony at the venue, in which they were handed Olympic mascot Bing Dwen Dwen teddy bears.

However the official medal ceremony at a plaza in Beijing should have taken place on Tuesday evening and Adams could not give any timeframe for when the medals would now be handed out.

Without confirming if it was a doping issue, Adams said on a general point: "The IOC delegated testing, management and sanctioning to the Independent Testing Authority to avoid the appearance of a conflict of interest. It's an active legal case and I refer you to other partners."

The hope of continuing British medal success in skeleton looks to be sliding away with Matt Weston and Marcus Wyatt sitting 13th and 17th after the first two heats - more than two seconds adrift of the leader.

Christopher Grotheer has a commanding 0.70 seconds lead over fellow German Axel Jungk, with China's Yan Wengang 0.75 back.

The final two heats are on Friday, and the women start their campaign too.

Pyeongchang bronze medallist Laura Deas and Brogan Crowley are in action but have barely broken the top 10 in any of their training runs.

I would have gone with what I knew. I would have wanted to be on a podium.

No one is ever going to take away those two Olympic golds that Yuzuru Hanyu already has.

That鈥檚 the risk of doing something you鈥檝e never done before and that no one has ever tried before. It鈥檚 costly.

As well as on the quad axel attempt, Hanyu also fell on the quad salchow.

He had to aim big as he had so much ground to make up after the short programme but the risk has not paid off.

He is top of the standings though, but it will probably not last for long.
