Woodway Park is a secondary school and community college, in Potters Green, Coventry.
There are many good factors about Woodway Park and its area but unfortunately there are also some bad points.
We want to put these points across so people can see what our area is like and hopefully influence people to make an effort to improve on the worse aspects.

Opportunities
At Woodway Park, we are fortunate enough to have access to a Connexions advisors.
The advisors, who are in our school, discuss issues of careers and social life with the pupils.
School council
Woodway currently have school council and year councils. Issues and fund-raising ideas are put forward to the council who decide what action should be taken.
It is an effective idea that allows students and teachers to have greater communication with each other and the students feel as though their needs will be taken seriously and dealt with in a satisfactory way.
Although fairly new to the school it is clear that the school council will be here to stay!
Staff
It is the staff that make our school enjoyable as it could be.
Hardworking, professional and helpful the staff are what make lessons fun!
Advice, information and anything you need is available if you ask them. Staff keep in touch with parents by regular reports and meetings.
Schemes
Throughout the years many schemes have been set up to give the students of Woodway a taste of real life and a look at the opportunities available to them.
On the 25th June 2002 year nine pupils attended a career day so they could have a closer look at local industries as well as choices they can later opt for.
(You can find out more about this event by following the link on the left).
Schemes and programs are much appreciated at Woodway and help make life very enjoyable.
Clubs
There is a wide range of after school clubs to choose from. Whether you want help with your homework or want to join a netball team the chances are there.
The school is also a community college, so people from our community can benefit from Woodway's facilities.

Litter
Litter has been an issue at Woodway Park for a long time. Countless schemes have been set up to no avail. The school also has two caretakers who work hard in their desperate attempt to keep levels of litter down.
This problem does not just affect the school but also spreads out into the community, causing danger to people and to the environment.
People don't seem to care about this problem and it's this attitude which allows the problem to remain.
Problems such as this are often the result of lack of community within a specific area and can be resolved by working as a group.
If everyone got involved with the improving of the environment maybe Coventry would become a cleaner, happier place!
Vandalism
Vandalism has defaced our school for years and has also began to spread to the neighbouring community. The destruction and ugliness that is the result may have more serious unseen effects on the area and our school.
A place that is vandalised is unappealing and may cause a decline in good work rates and the number of new citizens to the community. This could damage the sparkling opportunities Woodway has for the future!
听![quote start](/staticarchive/0fd93ac9bd229df17b2cf71c3432c1796ca968d7.gif) We hope that the Choices Event provides the pupils with contacts with different employers and challenges them. The day will be about learning through actions rather than being lectured to.

Woodway Park School and Community college is an Education Action Zone. This is part of the Government's social inclusion policy which targets areas of high poverty and low levels of continuing education.
Coventry's Millennium Action Zone has been sucessful in improving success rates in exams. Assisting head Chris Matcham says that the programme is designed across the whole of education from early years to post exams.
Links with industry have provided support for the school. Chris described some of the projects that have been successful, such as the Coca-Cola attendance scheme, the Jaguar summer schools and the support and skills centre.
