Louis Tomlinson's new single, Miss You, is packed full of swears, which made his recent performance in front of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge a nerve wracking experience.

He recently performed his new single at The Royal Variety Performance, and you'll be able to see it on 麻豆官网首页入口 1 in December, but in rehearsals for the show, he may have regretted some of the lyrics he wrote for the tune.

"I learned the explicit version and when it came down to the performance, I swore twice in my soundcheck," Louis told Nick Grimshaw on the Radio 1 Breakfast Show.

"I thought honestly it was going to be horrible if I ended up swearing in front of the Royals."

He made it through the performance without dropping an f-bomb, but his Royal ordeal wasn't over. He also revealed he feels "out of place" when it comes to meeting the Royal Family after events like the Royal Variety Performance.

"I don't have much small talk in general anyway, never mind to that type of clientele" he said, adding that he made sure he wasn't stood alone waiting for a Royal handshake.

"I got to bring my band on with me, I slid them on at the last minute, I thought I’d be stood there on my own looking silly so I managed to get them to meet Wills and Kate as well, which was cool."

Louis is performing Miss You on the 2017 X Factor final and says the single is his favourite release yet (sorry Steve Aoki and Bebe Rexha).

"With the Steve song I could do something a little more dance-y and with Bebe I could do something more urban, production-wise," he says.

"It's been really nice, with this song, to put loads of heavy guitars and bring the live elements back.

He even says Miss You reminds him of some of the songs he made with 1D, before the boys went their separate ways.

"It's got a big anthemic pop chorus and it's got a similar structure to what we had in One Direction, guitar-driven pop."
