A song about the growth of industry in Victorian Scotland
The young Queen Victoria sings about Scotland鈥檚 need to build and grow as a result of the Industrial Revolution. She describes the demands for iron and steel to build bridges, ships and railways, whilst coal is needed to fuel the jute and cotton factories. We learn that many of these products are then transported around the country and the world on the new trains and ships. The song highlights the use of child and female labour in heavy industries.
