Monrad is appointed Chairman of the Danish Council of Ministers. A former theologian and Bishop who has ventured into politics with a burning devotion that tends to consume everything that blocks his way. He is obsessed by the thought of Denmark as the standardbearer of the greatest ideals, with God on his side, and the power of rhetoric in the hollow of his hand.
For that same reason, he is also scared. There is insanity within his family, and throughout his life, he has been fearing, and still fears, that insanity may burst out within him again.
