- Men and women compete separately
- Events = criterium (several laps around a circuit) and individual time trial (one lap sprint around a circuit)
- Bikes = hand bikes, road bikes, recumbents (user lies down while operating pedals) and tandems (for two riders)
Categories:
Road bike:
- IRB1 (IPC C1-C3): Above the elbow, knee amputations or impairments, spinal cord injuries with some loss of trunk function.
- IRB2 (IPC C4-C5): Below the knee or above the elbow amputation or no functional grip.
- IRB3 (Open): No permanent disability impacting on performance.
Hand Bike:
- IHB1 (IPC H1-H3): Significant spinal cord injuries or limited trunk function.
- IHB2 (IPC H4-H5): Single or bilateral amputations, loss of lower limb function, people able to use a bike in a kneeling position and any athlete unable to ride a road or recumbent bike as a result of their impairment.
Recumbent Bike:
- IRecB1: Athletes who are unable to ride a two-wheel upright bike or hand bike as a result of their impairments.
Tandem Bike:
- ITB1: Visually impaired cyclist who require a pilot rider.
