Brass Finalist - Peter Moore

Peter Moore from Stalybridge has reached the final five in the prestigious Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Young Musician of the Year.

Belfast-born Peter is the youngest finalist and was the youngest competitor to make it through to the category final stage of the competition. A pupil of Chetham's School of Music, Manchester, Peter is one the five talented musicians to have won a place at the final of the competition which is organised by Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Wales.

All of Peter's family are brass players and he started playing the trombone when he was just six.

Head of Chetham's, Claire Hickman said: "With two finalists in this year's Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Young Musician of the Year from Chetham's, we are delighted to enjoy such a high profile in this wonderful competition again. It is a fantastic testament to the instrumental teaching levels that the school provides, as well as a celebration of the talent that these young students possess."
"Throughout the years, very many Chets students enter the competition, and every student finds the process a productive and positive experience. I would like to especially congratulate David Chatterton, our Head of Brass and Percussion for his time and support spent with both Peter and Jim in reaching this stage of the competition."

David Chatterton, Head of Brass and Percussion said, "Peter's success in reaching the Concerto Final of the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Young Musician of the Year Competition is all the more remarkable when you consider he is only twelve years of age. The competition has emphasised his ability to add an extra level of performance when it counts. Peter's maturity and dedication are fantastic, and it is great to see the freshness of his approach shine out in his playing when the chips are down. One to watch!"

One of the five musicians who compete in the final at Wales Millennium Centre, Cardiff on May 10, 11 will follow in the footsteps of past winners including Nicola Benedetti, Jennifer Pike, Emma Johnson and 2006 winner clarinetist Mark Simpson.
