Leaving aside the strange desire of humans to stroll by the big wet ocean - it's just one of the many cat/human dichotomies - is it true that Tiree has the most sunshine hours of any of the islands? While not the sunniest part of Scotland, that being the East Neuk of Fife, I think it still has an enviable sunshine record. Which can also help to banish the blues. Here in Rolling Acres, we get all the sunshine going, but, sadly at this time of year, go is exactly what it does and soon we will be lost in stygian gloom until February. Sigh.

Well, Flying cat, "the big wet ocean" it is, very beautiful when in a friendly mood but rather alarming when aroused, and even then, quite aesthetic to those who can see this. Tiree is known for long hours of sunshine, but though the sun shines it can be windy, another Tiree weather fact. Summer sunshine these days is at a lower supply compared to former days; you'll be aware of this happeening. As regards the"stygian gloom" , are not the winters somewhat milder now. IW, the winters may well be milder now, tho' being only nearly 3, I don't know from experience, but sadly, this doesn't lessen the gloom, as the spinning around of various planetary and starry bodies stays more or less the same. On which note, I'm a bit chuffed to see that dog Pluto being downgraded - quite right too! Mjc - three cords I can just about bear, but bluesian paucity of poetry I cannot. Leonard Cohen's a bit of alright. But then, he's Canadian...........

The "Mary Stewart" belonged to my great grandfather, Donald MacLean. Every few decades we take a family photo beside the remaining wreck. My brother has one from 1952 where the bow sprit and most of the side planking is still intact. This May, weather permitting, we'll be taking another photo with my young daughters (one of whom is named Iona).
