Wound Healing
After surgery, how quickly you get back to normal depends on how quickly and easily the wound heals.
Case Notes considers the evidence for optimum recovery and Dr Mark Porter has some tips on how people can aid the process themselves.
An inexact science
Mark's guest in the studio is Gus McGrouther, Professor of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at the University of Manchester.
Prof. McGrouther is the country's only research professor of plastic surgery.
He tells Mark that the medical profession has much to learn about what can help and hinder healing.
Reducing infection in hospitals
Alison Ayres visits Salisbury District Hospital to find out how they are working to reduce the number of wound infections after surgery.
The hospital is hoping that by changing basic procedures the number of cases of infection will significantly decrease each year.
Helping the healing
Accident & Emergency departments are often at the front line of wound management.
Mark hears the arguments for glue, staples and stitches when it comes to the methods staff might use to stick us back together.
