Nausea
Feeling sick is a very distinctive sensation, and yet it has a great many causes: food poisoning, pregnancy, infection, migraine or motion to name but a few. To discuss this, Dr Mark Porter鈥檚 guest in the studio is Paul Andrews, Professor of Comparative Physiology at St George鈥檚, University of London.
They will explore the very common problem of sickness during pregnancy, and what can be done to alleviate nausea as a side-effect of many drugs, including chemotherapy.
Post-operative nausea
Mark hears about why many people who have operations feel sick afterwards with Keith Myerson, Consultant Anaesthetist at Eastbourne District General Hospital. What can anaesthetists do to alleviate this unpleasant consequence of surgery?
Motion sickness
Mark experiences nausea first hand as he visits the motion sickness laboratory at Imperial College. Professor Michael Gresty demonstrates how he investigates motion sickness and spatial disorientation with a series of virtual reality machines. |
