Conservatory

We had a good Saturday after trying to sort out all componants and there was alot of them, we had managed to get the walls up, and the base bolted to the slab. The next job Monday will be the roofing system.

Once I have made this water tight, I will remove the old side door, which has blockwork behing it so we can link this from the Kitchen and give use more light as its very dark.

Oh and here is a pic of the Silkies now 10 weeks old

Well the conservatory is finish apart from the roof flashing, and I
have now cut out the blockwork to link the kitchen it seems nice to have more natural light in the kitchen

Ten weeks? Not quite old enough yet then...

Flying Cat from dribblingalloverthejoint

Glad to see you're not idling, Fred. The weather has been lovely here too for the past few days, ideal for building projects... I'm happy to hear that your kids are doing OK at school, that must have been a worry for you at first.

Jill from EK

Fred, slow down Fred, you are making me dizzy!!

mjc from NM, USA

FC should start laying at 18 weeks, last night was the first time they took themselves off to bed in the coop. Jill I though you are in the western Isles too, yes I think we always worry more than they do, but we are so glad they have settled very quickly. mjc, LOL I must do the kitchen next for Sarah, but after writing this im going to buy a poly tunnel to start growing my own veg next year and early ground maintenance.

Fred from Taking a break?

Fred, I wish I were in the Western Isles, or Northern Isles for that matter. I live just south of Glasgow. And the weather *has* been good here too - today also, brilliant sunshine. Take care.

Jill from EK

Poultry: you should have stayed with dual purpose Rhode Island Reds, Fred, the real thing. Brown eggs, lightly freckled shells, and juicy meat which would go well with your projected veggie harvest.

mjc from NM, USA

mjc....they sound great......the 2 reasons for the Silkies was one my daughter can handle them as they are very friendly and two they are very hardy to this torrain.....but your right the eggs are smaller then normal, my daughter thinks the eggs are going to be pidgeon size.

Fred from Mouth watering

don't be like me with your poly tunnel though and be stubbornly determined that you can put the plastic on all by yourself because it will be saggy like mine is....oh how they laughed in the garden centre when i told them i did it on my own!!. Unless your getting one that clips into the frame at the bottom that is, apparently they're quite easy to put up. I'm waiting for the next high wind to kill mine again and then i'll get a new cover and do it properly this time!! lol

tanith from point

Hi Tanith, what size is yours I was looking for a 14' x 24' withstanding upto 85mph winds ?

Fred from Point

Only 85mph?

Flying Cat from remembering 100mph+

85mph winds? You mean, you have instruments on the islands to record your light breezes? # Say, Fred, how tall at its midpoint on the arc is that polytunnel (the 14 by 24 one). Do you put the perimeter INTO the ground, or do you just tie the tunnel down?

mjc from NM, USA

Conservatory is looking good. I notice you have one window or door on each side: you plan to cool it down through cross ventilation or using a roof fan?

mjc from NM, USA

Looks great, Fred. Can you see the sea from the conservatory? What a great place to sit (in due course). Your cat and dog will love it. My neighbour put underfloor heating into his conservatory which is proving too expensive to run often, but when it's on his 2 cats are normally to be found spread flat out on the floor.

Jill from EK

mjc.....its about 2.4 metres high and yes the perimeter has to go into the ground, as for the 2 x windows and one door, the windows are tilt and turn so they also act as a fire escape if the doors locked, as to a roof fan lol....no it will never get that hot here. Jill, sorry forgot to add a pic from the inside out heres one for you now!

Fred from Point

Breathing new liff into an old hoose is an exciting and rewarding thing to do. But what on earth will you do when it's all over? Unless you are going to be a serial hoose-renovator...

Flying Cat from an admiring glance

mines not that big, 10x15 i think?? I'll email you info of a company that makes them in the highlands, i think they will have more of an understanding of what your after. Ours was inherited with the house but i did have to replace the cover after the huricane we had a few years ago. It's surrounded by trees and privet which act as quite a good windbreak but it did have windbreaks up all around it as well, and it's posts are set in concrete. conservatory's looking good by the way :-)

tanith from point

So, it's pretty much a greenhouse that you are building, Fred, not just a small structure to get the veggies, salads and such going?

mjc from NM, USA

fc......you never know, there are a few people that have asked me to do some work, if this continues then I might take that route, well at lease you know that i will turn up and do the work? what do you think!

Fred from will need work one day?

Thanks for the photo, Fred, nice view indeed. Enjoy!

Jill from EK

Make sure you get the money upfront and don't undercharge!

Flying Cat from doing no favours

fc, are things that bad? that you have to get paid in advance

Fred from self employed !!!

Don't trust the b*ggers until you see the colour-or possibly, color - of their money!

Flying Cat from cynicism samba

... and, Fred, if you have a picture of Abraham Lincoln on that pound note, you can take my word that it's a fake, probably originating from North Korea.
