Well as you Guessed right!

Yes.. the roofers turned up Monday, which made me very happy after 15 months of trying to arrange this, Not this company they got in touch in July.

I had to get one chimney breast taken down, as it would have not lasted only the rendering was holding it up, it the winds blow up it could have gone throught the roof or conseratory.

Saying that these guy's are working very hard considering the weather was supposed to be better this week, what happened?

They have started at the back of the house, and today have started tiling, this will pull the house together nicely, once an old tired house coming to life again, hopefully next week we can get the front done as this has got a total patch up job on it. Well here are the updates shots for the back near completion, then the area where the chimneys have been taken down, now the front of the house, I have to remove the storm window skews as they are ready to drop off not safe at all, the rotten timber has now been replaced and its amazing how warm the house if feeling now, after all the draughts.

Right, Fred, I claim my prize but I'm guessing it won't be biscuits as you don't seem to have any left. Great news about the roofers, this will really make a difference to your house, and good to get it done before the worst of the winter sets in. BTW what is that little window at the back of your house? Which room is that? (you'll definitely have to do a floor plan!) :-)

Jill from EK

Jill, Many years ago this was a single level Black house, if you look at the small ladders in the pic you can see a grey band of stone running along the house left to right....this is where the built the house up to make it a 2 level property, the little window rund through under the stairs and above the mid level stairs it is opposite the front door

Fred from Point

Thanks Fred, I understand now. Hope the roofers are making good progress!

Jill from EK

Excellent news about the roofers, but truly dreadful news on the gingernut front...

Flying Cat from an admiring glance and a furry hug

Glad to hear that your roof is being sorted ours is almost ready for the final trusses weather allowing. What was the prize then ?

Barebraes from Shapinsay

Do I need to wear a hard hat Fred? And I'll bring some ginger nuts, no worries. Just make sure it's safe, I'm a bit dodgy on my feet ( without a drink in me, which is why I don't drink, anymore) I don't want to trip over and have to sue you, or maybe I do???

Tws from Planning Dept.

Well Barebraes.....it only seems fair that you were the 1st one in, if you want to email me fbarnham@aol.com, I will send you something in the post, this is genuine buy the way....but I understand if you dont want to send me your address.

Fred from Giving out a Prize

This is so exciting. Could it be islandblogging's first genuine non-virtual prize?

Flying Cat from all agog

tws, hope fully they might be finished by next week as they are finishing off the skews at the back pending weather, but today they have started stripping the front so there are cracking on well. We have no paths at the moment, so its just sodden ground you should be ok, if not I give you a firemans lift ;o) look forward to seeing you soon.

Fred from Health & safety zone

Oi! I thought that Aunty Beeb's policy Czars had decreed no prize competions.

Hyper-Borean from Prizeless

Sorry...... Jill, like Bareraes You came in with the right answer, the blog update was alitttle slow on my computer? Jill if you to want to send me any info I will send you a prize out....no strings attached and yes it wont be buscuits I'm saving them for tws visit.

Fred from Giving it away

I won't set your house on fire Fred, so no need for the fireman's Lift.

Tws from Fire Dept.

I have no problem with sending you my address but honestly I didnt expect a real prize. Its nice to have a little competition on IB , you can always donate the prize to your fav charity if you wish :)

Barebraes from Shapinsay

Barebraes, really it no problem....I spend enough money in charities as it is. A promise is a promise.

Fred from No problem

Like Barebraes, I too am not expecting a real prize! And I think that others also guessed right. But I'll contact you separately just to get in touch.

Jill from EK

I'll take both their prizes then Fred, I'll pick them up on Tuesday ( unless it's a pile of manure, then you can send that to FC)

Tws from Lewis

Thank you. Good quality sh*t always accepted...and expected!

Flying Cat from a hard stare

Good for you Fred. Hopefully it's done right the first time: does the roofing come with a one year, 6 hour response time, warranty? I am sure it does, Fred, sure it does.

mjc from Tucson, AZ

LOL...mjc am I that predictable? method statements yes, risk assesments yes, insurance indemnities yes, company liabilities all are ok and checked out guarentee's Dam forgot that, only joking.

Fred from Point

See, if the parental units ever get around to moving Sooth, me and Marmers think it would be an awful good idea to hire (house) Dr Fred in a consultative capacity.

Flying Cat from dotting the i's and crossing the t's.

hey fred, glad to hear the roofers showed up for you and that they are getting on with it. i won't recognize your house when i want to get the bus to stop now!! not realy, lol, i'll just have to say 'stop by the house thats just had its roof done' and they will know exactly where i mean lol, well, i had hoped to visit soon, but as usual i come back here after a visit home and get struck down with the latest island lurgy going around (grumble grumble) never been so ill in my life but getting better each day and will soon be out on the streets again visiting folk. Hope all is well for you and yours. By the way, whats the name of the paint colour in your living room as i need to steal it for a wall of my own lol

tanith from point

I love that colour too, Tanith!

Jill from EK

So do I.Very Farrow&Ball.

Flying Cat from a hoose wi no heritage

OK....I can confirm the 2 lucky winners Jill and Barebrae's have been intouch eventhough they decilined a pressie, the gifts have been shipped today.....well done Ladies.

Fred from Giving it away?

Wonderful updates Fred. The roof is looking very good.

mjc from NM,USA

Hi mjc, Yes not looking so tired now, they have removed all the old tiles now of the front, so it can old get better, mess everywhere eventhough they are cleaning up as they go, we had quite alot of rain over the weekend, and no drips in site or in the house. Even the tiles are not rattling with the winds, it now makes you listen for something else to happen lol.

Fred from Point

"It'll all be over by Christmas"...

Flying Cat from Dunquerque Spirit

Thanks Fred, you're a very nice man, and it was a pleasure to meet you and Sahara, even though she had to desert us to dry off the wet kids. Getoffthe had never seen chickens before ( well not in an uncooked condition) so apologies for her over friendly look at yer wee Chicks. Cheery and thanks again for the coffee..

Tws from Home Safe And Well.

When the tiles rattle on Christmas night, don't call the roofers, Fred (I know you have their number on speed dial!), or the Coast Guard heli.: it's just Santa trying to squeeze down the chimney (with a nice calaphon wok just for you, eh?!). So, go back to sleep, and dream of something better than chop suey (for crying out loud!).

mjc from NM,USA

Tws, likewise it was great to meet you and you too are a very nice man. Yes sorry about Sarah whizzing off, but hopefully there will be other occasions, you will always welcome in our home. Hey, as we have matching goaty beards maybe we could do a calender between us for the IB Ladies (who knows)?....and thanks for those Hobnobs.......Those roofers have started tucking into them already.

Fred from Very Honoured

Fred is a man of his word, my prize arrived this morning! (Weds). It wasn't your Hobnobs, Tws, don't worry. Lovely surprise, Fred, I've already e-mailed you but I wanted to put this on the blog. Cheers!

Jill from EK

Funny mjc.......but your right, I keep listening out for more noises as its gone all quite, as for the wok.....santa may bring one (you never know) ;o) anyway the roof should be completed this weekl hopefully.

Fred from Point

Hobnobs, eh? Did you make them yourself, TWS? Got to give the devil its due: the best hobnobs/flapjacks are made in the UK. As to an IB calendar: I think it should be open to all island bloggers. Perhaps the Fank would be a good venue for the photo shoot? What do you say Calum., Annie-B., Arnish, etc.?

mjc from Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA

Mr McVittie made them for me mjc. I'm not allowed near our stove/cooker, although if we had one like Freds, I'd be able to see if the rings are on or not, touching them to check if they're on is not a good way of doing it.

Tws from Biscuits or Cookies?

Yes Thanks Fred the pressie arrived on Friday. It was really nice cos it was my birthday that day and it made my day

Barebraes from Shapinsay

Barebraes......cannot believe it took 5 days to get there, but I could not have planned it better, Happy belated Birthday glad you enjoyed them.

fred from Out of Prizes

Yes everything comes by snail mail here :) the Roofs lookin good too

Barebraes from Shapinsay
