The new Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú News app is truly awful.
On my phone I can see one massive picture with just a few words, rather than several topics on one page giving a good overview without excessive scrolling.
I don't want video - it eats my data allowance, but can't turn it off.
I don't want 'most viewed' - I actually have a mind of my own.
I don't want 'most watched' - I actually have a mind of my own.
I don't want 'live news', but can't turn it off. A quick scan a few times a day (without ANY scrolling) will let me know if I should turn on the TV.
I don't want MASSIVE pictures taking up most of the screen, but can't turn them off.
I don't even want local news, but can't turn it off.
What I DO want is the old user-friendly app back.
Judging by the feedback on Google Play, Apple iTunes store and Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú's own blog by Karolina Iwaszko, 95% of people feel the same. The only people asking for the new app are Windows phone users who haven't experienced the latest offering yet.
I've installed the old app on my phone thanks to a quick internet search:-
(bbc+news+android+app+2.5.3)
I've also uninstalled the latest rubbish app from my ipad, and I'm looking for a replacement. Unfortunately the Apple Store only has the new rubbish app.
PLEASE, PLEASE PLEASE give me the old app back, or someone please tell me how I can get the old app back on my Ipad (not backed up in iTunes).
If you uninstall updates will it revert back to the old version?
I have done that on a number of aps over the years. I've gotten messages about installing updates, I did so, but didnt like the new version.
So I went into the settings on my phone, then into the aps section and uninstalled just the update, not the app and it went back to the older version.

I'm puzzled .... I opened up the app on my iPad and it asked me to select the topics I wasintertested in .. And thus I have them all just one press awayand in summary as "My news"
All part of "My Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú "
As well as what the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú and the other users of the website deem important.
I agree - the new app is an abomination. The old one was just fine and easily navigable, without taking up the whole of the available space with the main story.
My app store on windows has 5 bbc news apps to chose from, I have Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú news online, no problem with it.
Here is a link to the blog mentioned in the Original Post.
This blog a few days after the first contains a link to a "feedback questionnaire"
I gave up on the blog when the verb "to surface" cropped up a couple of times. Huh?

They discussed this on newswatch this morning, and you all just need to get used to the changes.
New Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú news app is a disaster
Like most people I can't abide the new News app. I don't want MASSIVE pictures, that load slowly - I want text not on oceans of white background. I don't want trending news, I want to watch what I want to watch because I'm not 16. I don't want to scroll down and scroll up to exit.
Most of all I want the old excellent, logical, intuitive Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú news app back. PLEASE Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú bring back the old news app and make thousands of us happy - Don't be embarrassed we all make mistakes and we would all respect you for trying, but listening and responding to your customers would elevate you in our eyes.

Change your app to Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú news online nothing wrong with that.

Dear Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú,
Agree that you can't please all the people all the time.
Opinion is so clearly divided (and strong) would it kill you to provide two versions of the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú News app, one for the 'bring-back-the-old-app' camp and the new version for numpties ....?
Why does Android apparently provide multiple options when iTunes only has the abomination version ......?
Perhaps in time you can retire the new version under a Newsround banner and have John Craven's picture on it ....?
I gave up on the blog when the verb "to surface" cropped up a couple of times. Huh? Was that the "submariner's blog" or the "motorway maintenance blog"?

The new app is utterly unusable. I don't 'just need to get used to the changes' because l've just uninstalled it. Does anyone know if it is possible to get the old version back on a UK Android phone? Every time I try to install version 2.5.3 the app store says not available I your country.
A couple of weeks in and the 90% of users who hate the revised app are still being ignored completely. There is universal rejection of page filling pictures, lots of videos, the most read and watched sections and the lack of the range of news items.
Like most of us I'm happy using the old version and have deleted the childish offering that supposed to be an upgrade. Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú please do something - anything this lack of respect for your consumers is absolutely breathtaking!
The negative reviews are stacking up and are overwhelming. Research on public surveys suggest people who have strong positive or negative views are more likely to comment than the take it or leave it thinkers - so the 90% of negative critiques provides fairly strong evidence that this is a true reflection of something having gone badly wrong.
Come on Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú we are waiting.

ITS OFFICIAL the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú while talking about transparency and engagement actually don't give a damn about what the consumer thinks.
The News app was the most popular on the planet - 40 MILLION people downloaded it. People loved it and it was used by millions each day - it was a design classic and did well what people wanted.
But then the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú asked a company called 'Little Fluffy Toys Ltd.' (Not joking) to update it - They thought people wanted more pictures, more videos, more light-hearted stories - wanted to know what others were reading like 'trending news'
So WHAM it was launched and OMG. - sit back and admire your cleverness
BUT the users did not agree NINETY PERCENT SAID NO THIS IS NOT WHAT WE WANT.
What happened ? Lockdown for 3-weeks, panic, confusion and angry - they are luddites, morons, too think, too old, etc
We'll make a few changes they say - NO WE SAY BRING BACK THE OLD APP - as it has been said thousands of times 'if it wasn't broke…. etc'
Watch this space

It's pretty typical of the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú. Take something most people love. Destroy it. Then ignore all the complaints until they go away or the people complaining die of frustration or old age.
The continued arrogance of a corporation that is supposed to be a public service will eventually lead to its enemies getting their way, seeing its destruction.
I foolishly downloaded the News App update and did not understand how it was supposed to work. In fact, nothing did work.
I didn't make the connection at the time but, coincidentally, my phone slowed down to a crawl. It wasn't until I uninstalled the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú News App, that I realised that it had been the culprit!
I searched the web for the APK (Android installation file) for the old version, installed it, and I am a happy bunny again..... for the time being. I know that, in all their wisdom, the whizz kids and their untold numbers of managers responsible for this disaster, will soon turn off support for the old version.
It's all very sad. I've supported the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú for 62 of my 67 years but am beginning to tire of its arrogance and unresponsiveness.
Clearly this is an Android problem. The app works beautifully on my iphone.

How 'exactly' do you install the apk for the old version? Every time I try I get sent to the Google Play site which just says "Not available in your country." (I'm in UK).

I've done all that (it's version 2.5.3). What I'm asking is how do you install it?

Have you done 'all that' on your phone browser?
It should be there to download/install once you've found the version you want.

But, you might have to adjust your settings to allow the installation of software from other sources.

Yup. Done all that. All the sites I've tried direct you to the Google play site where you're informed that it's not available in your country.

I will check on my Note later and see where you can get a secure download and post the link if I get a chance this evening.

No need! Thanks for the offer, but I've just sussed it and it works perfectly. Must remember to switch off auto update. Many thanks for your help.

Despite the continued mostly poor reviews on Android Play Store and ITUNES, and the almost universally negative comments on this Blog,
the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú is persisting in its "hear no evil, see no evil" attitude.
It should cut its losses and revert to the old version but, of course, that will never happen. Scarce funds will continue to be wasted on this vanity project, and of course keeping the Fluffy Toys outfit, responsible for writing this debacle, in business. The Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Trust should be looking carefully into the relationship between its online department and this software company.

I like it. I find it very easy to use. I never had a problem with the old one either.
They (Little Fluffy Toys) seem to have previously done a very good job with the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Weather App.
Its not really about whether it works - its about personal preference. In the real world of business a 90% disapproval rate for a new product would see the product withdrawn. The Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú news app rating on iTunes has crashed from 4.0 to 1.5. There have been extremely negative reviews now at a rate of 9 to 1, week after week, in their thousands, since version-3 was launched. Overwhelming evidence to suggest that the vast majority preferred version-2.
The annoyance is that the only possible explanation for the lack of action is that the continued support for the new app is meeting the needs of the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú not the licence payers. Several minor updates rushed through to try desperately to improve it have failed to appease users.
If any one at the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú ever reads these - do something now - you had a 4-star product in Dec-14 - now you have a 1.5-star product and the users of the product saying 'bring back the old app'. The deletions continue and the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú news app has a product is dying.

I fear the Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú is more and more adopting a bunker attitude on all sorts of fronts. The wishes and needs of the UK viewing public takes a lower and lower priority. Expensive and unnecessary vanity projects like the new News App, get more and more money thrown at them (as do sports programmes it would seem) whilst there are programme cuts elsewhere (Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Three and Â鶹¹ÙÍøÊ×Ò³Èë¿Ú Four) and much loved old programmes, like Songs of Praise, are mangled out of all recognition until no one wants to watch them and so they can be cut.
Everything has to be young, trendy and politically correct.and, if female, not too old and preferably physically attractive. Did I say politically correct? Maybe not on that point, perhaps!
