Tom Neuwirth performed as alter ego Conchita Wurst for the first time in 2011. Little did Conchita know that just two years later, she would go on to win the Eurovision Song Contest 2014! Storming the stage in Copenhagen, Conchita secured 290 points for Austria with the powerful song: 'Rise Like A Phoenix'. (A song which would go on to top Russia’s download charts just two days later.)

Upon being awarded the trophy, Conchita held it aloft and proclaimed: "This night is dedicated to everyone who believes in a future of peace and freedom… We are unity and we are unstoppable". A huge supporter of lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) rights, Conchita’s victory held socio-political significance for many. UK host, Graham Norton, stated: "It seems like Eurovision has done something that matters just a little bit".
Recent months have seen Conchita perform at an anti-discrimination event in Brussels as well as headline London’s LGBT Pride Parade.
