Four Job Opportunities

Spent the first three days checking out the lectures at the Shawbost 'Islands at War' conference. All very interesting. One little fact stood out for me. In a lecture on clan warfare I think it was Frank Thompson who mentioned that due to deals struck between various parties for supplying soldiers in the 17th century the Isle of Lewis has the right to four seats in the Isle of Man Parliament, The Tynwald.
I think the Jobcentre in Stornoway should send the four people who have been unemployed the longest and exercise this right. A bit of dialogue with the Isle of Man might be very useful. Lewis would be great for a TT if they finished the circular route between Tolsta and Ness and Brue would make a great tax haven. Any volunteers for the posts and what would you bring to the job? You've the weekend to think about it.
Calum Friday mid morning.

Curiously enough, if it hadn't been for that chancer Oliver Cromwell, the Isle of Lewis could have ended up as part of the Netherlands in the 17th century.

It wouldn't have worked - there wasn't enough timber on the island for everyone to have a pair of clogs.

So, we meet at last! Well, I think that we did anyway... I was there and you were there and by process of elimination... The clue was Joss Stone, I had my suspicions from that point on!

Hi Bob me uncle: I can assure you that I, for one, wasn't there, and stone me if you are not speaking in riddles. # I have always thought, Calum., that Lewis was taken to the cleaners for agreeing to a mere 4 reps. re Tynwald. # Arnish: would that have been a good thing had Lewis ended up as part of the Netherlands? Would guga now be pickled rather than air dried? Pickled guga, pickled herring, met fritjes.

Things are hotting up. Closets bursting open all over!

We don't have closets on Lewis in case they charge community charge on them FC.

No closets??? How dreadful. But purrhaps you have many presses...

No closet, no bidet, nothing, zilch. No wonder the machair blooms.
