Well the new digital channel is up and running and it was strange watching Celtic and Kilmarnock battling it out with a Gaelic commentary today. So far there seems to have been a strange film about Elvis in Point and a documentary about a mass murderer with the life of Zinadine Zidane to come next week. What are the progrmamme controllers playing at?
Not a mention of Harris Tweed or windfarms yet and no mention of Brian Wilson.
Surely a documetary on the making of Harris Tweed should be a priority plus Trinny and Susannah doing a programme on Sunday millinery in the Free Churches and why no Sunday service? Maybe an X Factor for precentors would make great TV or a programme about Ministers called Strictly No Dancing.
A new soap in the style of Emmerdale called Oliver's Brae would surely outdo Neighbours and we could have a Drunk and Disorderly Crimewatch shot in Stornoway.
What other programmes should the new channel be airing?

what a chrissie mary hosting a fanny craddock style cookery programe with all the different ways of cooking guga?

carol(the french conection) from over here

I tuned in looking for Emporioalanjohn's shopping channel and was most dissapointed it wasn't on. It was nice to see that most of his stock was used fore the film about Elvis - now that is product placement at its very best.

But who would play her Johnny?

Donald has been practicing in front of the mirror, 'May all your Gugas tirn out like Fanny's'.

murdo john???

They could revive Stars on Sunday but would have to change the name. Stars on Tuesday? And how about a 24/6 News Channel?

Ummmm, what are "gugas"?

thelovelyOutlander from just wonderin'

A rather good (so I thought) comment of mine has disappeared. Carol from IBHQ, I am starting to get annoyed. Could you please look into said criminal disappearance? Thank you.

Gugas (dear Outlander) are a fowl delicacy, priced accordingly. Must be aged at least 12 years for best flavor. The legendary HIghland Chieftains (according to Walter Scott, Sir Walter to you) never went to battle without having had a bite of guga, which they carry in their sporran. Ibloggers, particularly from the western islands, have wonderful recipes for guga. In fact, Annie Bheag will have a guga cookbook for sale at the next Fank. So, if you want Annie's autograph ...

Young gannet/solan goose. Regarded as a kingly delicacy in the sixteenth century. Ness men like Calum, Donald and Murdo John still 'allowed' to make the annual catch by special dispensation in 1954 Protection of Birds Act. I'm more a Cats Protection purrson myself...

Is it a Gaelic version of Eldorado? It'll no' last...

Flying Cat from pots of gold

How about a topical political drama set in the Comhairle offices - Western Isles Wing perhaps?

Taking of which - does anyone remeber Eldorado Ice Cream?

Re - Eldorado Ice Cream; yes, sadly, I do.

Hyper-Borean from The dry ice freezer

Thanks for explaining the delicacy of guga, m8s.

thelovelyOutlander from always learning

Stick around, Outlander, there is always and plenty more to learn. Guga: remember - minim. 12 years old. The freshly dried out are like new Beaujolais, shipped to foreign parts or at least to the big cities, for the delight of palates rather less refined. Whenever you get to visit the western isles, you should ask to visit your host's basement: years of gugas hanging from the rafters, segregated by harvest - 1994 was a particularly good one, all under low lighting. You really have to see it to believe it.

OUtlander, don't let mjc take the mickey, he's never seen a guga in his life, no guga in South Indiana. Like me all he knows about guga he learnt from these very pages. He's a one, that mjc!

Barney from Swithiod come off it

In fact, you're a bit of a pair... Mjc forgot the breadboard...

Flying Cat from we've been here before...

my comment went astray....

scallowawife from weary

I wonder where they all go?

Flying Cat from lost comments bin

FC, they end up in the Commons at Question Time as answers. Reports that they have been used by Governor Palin as fodder with which to foil reporters are quite undocumented. And no, Sarah Palin has never eaten guga, thank you. For crying out loud, not everything can be blamed on that Nessian delicacy.

mjc from IN, USA

Actually googled guga--not sure I am brave enough to try something that is an "acquired taste." And FC, see if you see any of comments there...

thelovelyOutlander from googling guga

(another comment a goner, so let's try this a-one). Outlander, you should not trust everything you read on google. If you want the real McCoy (or Buchanan for that matter) read what's posted on iblogs!! Read AND BELIEVE!!
